October POWERhour!

Featuring

Kathy Acock

Join us for the October POWERhour! featuring Kathy Acock, CEO and Chair of the Executive Committee for Alpha Building Corporation.

Ms. Acock has been a leader in the construction industry for over forty years!  Her focus at Alpha Building Corp. continues to be on business development, marketing and client interface.  In her role as CEO and Chair she is a decision maker and mentor, encouraging and advising Alpha’s managers and preparing them to carry the firm forward.

In 1989, Kathy was a pioneer in the Job Order Contracting system of delivery of minor construction projects for colleges, universities, the military, counties and municipalities. Through this process her firm has accomplished over $1 billion of construction projects at sites located in Texas, Arkansas, New Mexico, Tennessee, Kansas and Oklahoma. The firm has grown to over 100 employees, performing construction services for over 110 clients and institutions in multiple states. Locally since 1990, her firm has successfully serviced contracts for Fort Sam Houston; Randolph Air Force Base; Texas A&M University; University of Texas at San Antonio; Northeast ISD; Northside ISD; City of San Antonio; and, Bexar County.

Kathy has a strong belief in “giving back” to the communities that have supported this company for the past 27 years.  She served on the board of the Associated Builders & Contractors for eight years, including serving as Chair in 2013; she was a founding member of the Construction Industry Advisory Council for the Department of Construction at UTSA and served as its President in 2015. She served on the Great Conservation Honors Program Scholarship dinner committee and as a member/volunteer at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church.

She has sponsored over $500,000 in scholarships for students studying Construction Science and Management at Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Kathy has received the following honors from Ford Motor Company Woman in Business Award in 2007; the American Association of University Women “Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award” in 2008; the 2005 NAWBO Entrepreneurial Spirit Award; the 17th Annual Leadership Award for Corporate Leadership by La Prensa Foundation; the 2010 Associated Builders & Contractors “General Contractor of the Year in 2010; and, the 2016 San Antonio Business Journal “Women’s Leadership Award”.  She was inducted into the John Tarleton Society at Tarleton State University in 2016 and received their “Distinguished Friend” Award in 2017 and recognized by The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.
